DE PLAYER is a polymorhpic production platform in Rotterdam (nl), which has been putting together programs on the cutting edge of performance art, experimental music and the visual arts. We want to emphasise the importance of sound, and the performance and positioning of sound within the visual arts and contemporary experimental music. Theory, design, lifestyle and staging form a key role in this. We don’t adhere to the usual separation which occurs between the disciplines of music and visual art, rather we show their mutual inspirations and influences.
DE PLAYER presents what we see as peripheral acts not inhibited by style. These are acts which in general, on their own strength, have managed to justify their existence. As far as the musical and visual choices are concerned, they have clear theoretical motivation and conceptual intentions. Often several media are put into play, and (self)reflection rather than industrial or economic motivation is the driving force. They exhibit a strong tendency toward independent attitudes in which the risk of failure is not deliberately evaded. The results which their processes produce, display a certain tenacity. In today’s world where standardisation has such predominance, we consider it important to call attention to these people and to give them a platform.
Since the advent of the club, our program has been presented to the public in a happening-style setting: the physical, the performative, the impermanent, the audience, the hybridity of the program, the spectacle and the confusion – all of these are important elements in the function of our platform. The situation could be seen as comparable to the Dadaist salons – lots of activity and tumult, drinking and socialising, whilst all along there’s a innovative, substantive program on offer. The ambiance is not that of a concert hall (black box) nor that of the gallery (white cube) but what we could term a ‘grey dome’ – a twilight zone.
DE PLAYER also initiates and produces publications with sound and artwork with its Drop of Blood label.

STORMTRAP
is a music producer/composer/MC from Palestine. Experimenting with old samples, instruments, and field recordings the sound results in a fusion of ambient atmospheres combined with various noises and hip hop beats. Stormtrap played a fundemental role in forming the band Ramallah Underground, with which he has performed worldwide the past few years. He has also collaborated with artists such as Kronos Quartet, Gilad atzmon, 2/5bz, Spiritchild, and Lethal Skillz, among many others.

POCZ & PACHEKO
(Enchuda & Abstractor Records)
two DJ/Producers creating beats on a daily basis in the ultra-paranoid city of Caracas, Venezuela. Their sound is a mix of bass music, kuduro, dub and house—they call it Tropical Bass Music, but the tag “Caracas Bass” has also been used. They’ve released music on labels like Senseless Recordings (UK), Tigerbeat6 (US) and Enchufada (PT), with DJ support from the likes of Untold, J.Wow,Brenmar, Kid606, Cardopusher and Blackdown among others.
Along with a select few others they run Abstractor, a collective of producers, artists and designers who promote parties, run a popular blog (www.abstractor.net), and represent bass music in Venezuela. Over the past few years they’ve hosted events in Caracas with guests including Mala from Digital Mystikz, Chrissy Murderbot, DJ DeVille and DJ Rupture among others.
Pocz & Pacheko also produce, DJ and release music separately. Pocz is a trained musician and audio engineer and Pacheko will be familiar to some for his solo releases on Lo Dubs, Murder Channel, & Seclusiasis. When they work together, however, things like this tend to happen: (zarbak video).

Neben spezieller Location inkl. features wie Dachterrasse, Holz
Dancefloor und Warehouse Charme, legen wir auch besonderen Wert auf
die Sound Qualität. Zu den zwei fetten Bass Einheiten gibts drauf ein
sehr feines System von Kling & Freitag.
Nach zwei Jahren Pause meldet sich exit mit einem sehr interessanten
Gast zurück. Erwartet wird Alan Abrahams aka. Portable aka. Bodycode,
der wie immer live spielen wird.
Einen Namen machte sich Alan Anfang der Nuller Jahre zunächst mit
abstraktem Techno auf Labels wie Backround oder Pole’s
Qualitätsschmiede ~scape. 2006 folgte das Nebenprojekt Bodycode auf
dem Ghostly Int. Sub Spectral und weitere Releases auf Karat, Yore und
Alans eigenem Label Süd Electronic.
In den letzten Jahren legte Alan einen weiteren Zahn zu und
veröffentlichte mit seinen beiden Maxis auf Perlon, “Knowone Can Take
Away” und “This Life Of Illusions”, zwei seiner bisher stärksten
Arbeiten. Auffällig war der vestärkte Einsatz von Vocals, die den
Tracks eine weitere Ebene und einen Schuß mehr Tiefe hinzufügten, ohne
dabei ihren abstrakten futuristischen Charme zu verlieren. Ein Album
wird diesen Sommer auf Perlon erscheinen und die Erwartungen sind
hoch!
Den Rahmen werden wie immer die beiden exit Haus djs spunk + houser
geben. Dance.. or TRY!

I have no words to describe his music, because his works are really
unique. But, by unique, I REALLY mean unique…
In some DJ sets, you don’t need to ID his tracks, because we recognize
his very personal sound everytime, and for me, that is what we can
call an “Artist”, someone who’s got a sound signature.
Strictly speaking about the music, the drum programming is elegant,
complex, deep, organic and “nanotechnologic” at the same time. The
ambiance is like… you are dropped in a jungle, alone, you walk,
discover strange temples and weird bunkers (Lost you said? Laughing ).
It sounds like a permanent enigm.
Portable’s sound is primitive and progressive at the same time. It is
the sound of Earth, magnetism, and it’s mysteries.
His livesets are the ones which got the most psychedelic and hypnotic
effect on my brain. I’ve got a liveset from 2002. With a storytelling
beat of only 120 bpm, my body and soul makes more acrobaties than an
average 128 bpm techno liveset.
While Cadenza (for example) now pays some cheesy tributes to “world
and ethnic” influences, Portable has been doing it waaaay better,
without the cheese, for years.
Deep love and respect for this artist who’s changed my vision of
electronic music.”

Riesen Sticker
…Die Intention der beiden aus Deutschland stammenden Initiatoren des „Monster Combo“-Projekts war es, den größten zusammenhängenden Sticker im deutschsprachigen Raum zu kreieren. Diese Idee wurde umgesetzt, indem sich 43 „Street Artists“ aus Österreich, Deutschland und der Schweiz im Herbst 2010 formierten und einen Riesensticker mit 130 cm Breite und 75 cm Höhe zusammenstellten.

dasviadukt hat alle beteiligten Künstler aufgefordert für die Ausstellung weitere Arbeiten einzureichen. Vorgaben hinsichtlich Material, Technik, Format gab es keine.
Zine
Zur Dokumentation wird ein auf 140 Stück limitiertes handgemachtes “Zine” produziert, das als Katalog der Ausstellung verstanden werden kann.
Das Heft kommt mit handgedrucktem Siebdruckcover und stellt alle beteiligten Künstler vor.
